Most patients experience some mild pressure or tightness when they first wear a new set of aligners, which is a sign that the teeth are moving as intended. This typically settles within a day or two. Because there are no brackets or wires, there is nothing to rub or catch on soft tissue. The majority of patients find Invisalign® considerably more comfortable than traditional fixed braces throughout the course of treatment.
Yes. The aligners are removed before eating and drinking anything other than cold water, so there are no dietary restrictions whatsoever. You simply take them out, eat and drink as normal, brush your teeth, and put them back in. This is one of the most practical advantages of Invisalign® over fixed braces, and means your oral hygiene routine is entirely unaffected throughout treatment.
Once your final aligner is worn, we provide custom retainers to be worn at night. Retention is essential to keep your teeth in their new position while the surrounding bone stabilises, and it is a permanent commitment. Without retainers, teeth have a natural tendency to shift back over time. We discuss this at the outset so there are no surprises, and many patients also choose to combine their completed Invisalign® result with teeth whitening for a complete smile refresh.
