The closest thing
to a natural tooth.
A dental implant is a small titanium post that is placed directly into the jawbone, where it gradually fuses with the surrounding bone through a process called osseointegration. Once fully integrated, it acts as a stable root for a custom-made crown placed on top, restoring the full appearance and function of the missing tooth. The result looks, feels, and behaves like a natural tooth in every way that matters.
Unlike dentures or bridges, an implant replaces the root as well as the crown, which means the jawbone beneath continues to receive the stimulation it needs to remain healthy. This prevents the bone loss that typically follows tooth loss, maintaining the natural contours of your face over time. It is the most complete and clinically sound way to replace a missing tooth.
An implant does not just replace what you have lost. It preserves what remains.

replacing a tooth.
A dental implant is the only tooth replacement option that addresses both the visible and the structural consequences of tooth loss. It is a long-term investment in your health, your confidence, and your quality of life.
Looks and feels completely natural
The crown placed on your implant is custom-made to match the shape, size, and shade of your surrounding teeth. Once in place, it is indistinguishable from a natural tooth, both to you and to anyone else. You clean it exactly as you would a normal tooth, with no special products, no removal, and no compromise to your daily routine.
Preserves the jawbone
When a tooth is lost, the jawbone beneath it begins to resorb because it is no longer receiving stimulation through biting and chewing. Over time this can alter the shape of your face and destabilise neighbouring teeth. A dental implant replicates the function of a natural root, transmitting force into the bone and preventing the deterioration that other replacement options cannot address.
Does not affect adjacent teeth
A traditional dental bridge requires the healthy teeth on either side of the gap to be prepared and used as anchors, which means removing tooth structure from teeth that do not need treatment. An implant is entirely self-supporting, leaving the neighbouring teeth completely untouched. It is the most conservative option available for replacing a missing tooth.
A long-lasting investment
With good oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups, a well-placed implant can last for many years, often decades. The implant itself, once integrated with the bone, is highly stable and durable. The crown on top may require replacement over time, but the underlying implant typically remains sound. When considered over the long term, implants often compare very favourably to alternatives that require more frequent maintenance or replacement.
Three parts.
One complete tooth.
The implant fixture
A small titanium post placed into the jawbone during a minor surgical procedure. Over a period of weeks, the bone grows around and bonds to the titanium in a process called osseointegration, creating a stable, anchor that replicates the function of a natural tooth root.
The abutment
A small connector piece that attaches to the top of the implant fixture once it has fully integrated. The abutment protrudes just above the gum line and provides the precise connection point for the crown. It is usually fitted at a second appointment after healing is confirmed.
The crown
The visible part of your new tooth, custom-made in a dental laboratory to match the shape, size, and shade of your surrounding teeth exactly. Once fitted to the abutment, it is the only part of the implant you will ever see or feel, and it is indistinguishable from the natural teeth beside it.
What to expect
at every stage.
Dental implant treatment is carried out across several appointments over a number of months. Select each stage to understand exactly what is involved.
Your implant journey begins with a dedicated £50 consultation to assess your suitability. We examine your teeth, gums, and bite, discuss the tooth or teeth you have lost and the result you are hoping to achieve, and advise on whether implants are the right option for your case. Good general oral health and adequate bone volume are important factors. If any preparatory treatment is needed beforehand, we explain this clearly and factor it into your plan.

Am I suitable
for an implant?
Most healthy adults who have lost a tooth are suitable for dental implants. Suitability depends primarily on the health of your gums, the volume and density of bone at the implant site, and your general health. The best way to find out is through a dedicated consultation, where we carry out a thorough assessment and give you a clear, honest picture of your options.
Certain factors can affect suitability or require management before treatment begins. Gum disease must be treated and stable before an implant is placed. Smokers can still be treated, but smoking does affect healing and long-term success rates, and we discuss this openly. Conditions such as diabetes or the use of certain medications may also need to be considered. None of these are necessarily barriers, but they are part of the conversation we have at your assessment.
If bone volume is insufficient, options such as bone grafting may be possible. We discuss everything at your consultation.
Things people
often wonder.
Everything you might want to know before your dental implant consultation. Still have a question? We are always happy to help.
The placement procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic, so you will not feel pain during the surgery itself. Most patients are surprised by how comfortable the experience is. Some tenderness and swelling in the days following placement is normal and manageable with over-the-counter pain relief. The healing period is typically straightforward, and any significant discomfort beyond the first few days should be reported to us promptly.
The full implant process, from placement to fitted crown, typically takes between three and six months. This includes the healing and osseointegration period of eight to twelve weeks, during which the implant fuses with the jawbone. The timeline depends on your individual healing rate and whether any preparatory treatment such as bone grafting is required beforehand. We confirm your expected timeline at the planning stage before anything begins.
With good oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups, a well-placed implant can last for many years, often decades. The titanium fixture itself, once integrated with the bone, is extremely stable. The crown on top may need replacing over time due to normal wear, but the underlying implant typically remains sound. Smoking, poor oral hygiene, and certain health conditions can affect longevity, which is why we discuss these factors openly at your consultation.
Bone loss at the site of a missing tooth is common, particularly when the tooth has been absent for some time. In some cases, bone grafting can be carried out to build up the volume needed to support an implant. This adds time to the overall treatment plan but can make implants possible for patients who might otherwise have been told they are not suitable. We assess bone volume precisely at the planning stage using detailed scans and advise you honestly on your options.
The cost of dental implant treatment depends on the number of implants required and whether any preparatory work such as bone grafting or extractions is needed. All fees are confirmed in writing at the planning stage before any treatment begins, so there are no surprises. 0% finance is available through Tabeo for eligible patients, allowing you to spread the cost into manageable monthly payments. The £50 consultation fee is fully redeemable against treatment.
